Septic Flesh

Yet another band from Greece!  Slight coincidence, but Rotting Christ reminds me of Septic Flesh, so I thought I should share it!  "Hailing from Athens, Attica, Greece, Septic Flesh was founded in 1990. Their sound was a Hellenic brand of Death Metal mixed with Doom Metal and Gothic Metal elements."  They also share the Season of Mist label with Rotting Christ, and Kylesa (with many others, a great label).

Atmospheric, symphonic and rifftastic with clean vocals that mix amazingly with the Death growls... with a lyrical focus on fantasy, mythology, occultism and H.P. Lovecraft it makes for a pretty epic time.  It almost sounds like a horror film soundtrack that was fused with a metal-heads CD collection.

Rotting Christ

"Rotting Christ* is a Greek black metal band formed in 1987. They are noted for being one of the first black metal bands within this region, as well as a premier act within the European underground metal scene.  Despite the name, the band's traditional lyrical themes involving evil and occultism has evolved into a more mystic path, and they have modified their musical direction on each album, utilizing elements such as clean melodic baritone vocals, Doom, Gothic metal and Industrial music traits, and male/female Benedictine chants."

Rotting Christ is more of what I would call a Melodic Blackened Death Metal band, heavy, atmospheric and full of awesome riffs / musicianship.  They currently have 10 albums (their newest being Aealo) so you have a lot to pick from if you like it!

Lair of the Minotaur

(Early start! Yeah!)

Lair of the Minotaur is a Thrash / Sludge Metal band from Chicago, Illinois. They have themes of Greek Mythology, incorporate a Doom / Sludge sound with Thrash and even a bit of Black Metal so they are a different type of Metal, among the likes of Kylesa and Mastodon. Their newest release is Evil Power, check it out!
